Nordic Skiing in Yellowstone Country

West Yellowstone offers some of the best cross-country skiing in the nation, with over 35 kilometers of groomed runs within the renowned Rendezvous Trail System. Located at the southwest corner of West Yellowstone (Geyser and Obsidian Streets), the Rendezvous Ski trail system covers varied terrain from gently rolling hills to more challenging climbs, descents, and turns. The view is always scenic whether winding through tall stands of lodge pole pine or open meadows embraced by nearby Lionhead Mountain. The trail system is unique because of its location at a high altitude adjacent to the Continental Divide that produces early and late season snows (November through April), as well as the most annual consistent snows in the continental U.S.

Most of Yellowstone is backcountry and managed as wilderness; many miles of trails are available for skiing. Track is set only on a few trails. All unplowed roads and trails are open to cross country skiing and showshoeing. When skiing on unplowed roadways used by snowmobiles, keep to the right to avoid accidents. Park elevations with adequate skiable snow range from 7,000 to 10,000 feet (2133 - 3048 meters.) If you are coming from lower elevations, acclimate yourself and test your capabilities by taking short day trips before considering longer excursions.

Bohart Ranch Cross Country Ski Center, located 16 miles northeast of Bozeman, Montana and 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park, is dedicated to offering the highest quality Nordic Skiing. Our 29Km scenic trail system situated on private and Forest Service lands, loops through terrain well suited to all ability levels. The trails are professionally groomed for both classic and skate skiing using the latest technology in grooming equipment, the Prinoth Husky. Our guests will enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Bridger Mountains whether out for a leisurely tour or a competitive training ski.

By using state-of-the-art equipment and very skilled grooming staff, we professionally groom a beautiful 85 Km trail system for both skating and striding. We offer a PSIA ( Professional Ski Instructors of America) certified ski school staffed by top quality instructors who have been with us for many years. We have the latest Fischer, Madshus and Alpina rental equipment and pros to advise you on the best gear for your needs.

For the only groomed trails in the area, check out Red Lodge Nordic Center, located west of Red Lodge on Highway 78. Over 15K of trails are laid out to take advantage of the inspiring views and easy-going nature of the terrain. This is a great place for families to get out and have some affordable fun!
