Get away from the crowds and explore this beautiful and varied area. Take a break for lunch or set up camp for the night. Stay in a campground or RV park or hike to a seclude spot. There's something here for everyone! West Yellowstone is located outside the West Entrance to YNP and near Hebgen and Quake Lakes. Big Sky is surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks and mountain meadows. Bozeman, surrounded by six mountain ranges, is home to Montana State University and the Museum of the Rockies. Three Forks is just minutes from the headwaters of the Missouri River. All make perfect base camps for a true Montana adventure!

Have a hamburger in Paradise! Heading south? The Yellowstone River runs through Livingston, Paradise Valley and Gardiner, making them the perfect place for a picnic. Setup camp and spend the night in paradise between the Beartooth and Gallatin ranges. Heading north? Follow the Shields River through the beautiful Shields Valley to Clyde Park and Wilsall for a picnic. Head up into the Crazy Mountains for an incredible camping trip. If you like eating in the great outdoors, you'll love sleeping in it.

You will find just the right spot for picnicking and camping here where the plains meet the Rockies! The Crazy Mountains are to the west and the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness to the south and the prairies to the east. Have a picnic by the beautiful Boulder River, the Yellowstone River, the Stillwater or any of the smaller streams in the area. Try a campground with amenities or hit the trail and sleep with the fishes and rest of nature. Take in the quiet solitude of the wild and remote—or have a good time around a campfire with facilities. You choose. The area surrounding Big Timber, Reed Point, Columbus, Park City, Rapelje, Absarokee, Fishtail and Nye offers camping opportunities of every kind.

Red Lodge and the surrounding towns of Roscoe, Belfry and Joliet offer great picnic views of the Beartooth Absaroka Wilderness. Campgrounds provide the perfect getaway or pack into the heart of the wilderness and truly get away from it all. Head up the Beartooth Pass and you will pass through pristine alpine tundra as you cross the top of the world into Cooke City, at the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Cooke City is the perfect base camp for exploring YNP and the incredible area surrounding it. This area is filled with streams and high mountain lakes. A true camper's dream.
